Book:
Waking with Enemies
Author:
Eric Jerome Dickey
Eric Jerome Dickey is nothing
short of sensational. A man at the apex of his
craft, he manipulates dialogue by twisting, bending,
and moulding it into submission with utmost control
as it relates to theme, form and structure. 'Waking
with Enemies' is stunningly sexy, hedonistic,
blatantly human and surprisingly redemptive. With
the ease of an established sensual artist, Dickey
manages to appropriate this medium to realism.
The reader is forced to
sympathise with the protagonist, Gideon, a hit-man/assassin
living a fast- paced life that intermingles steaming
sex, callous-hearted murders, perpetual distrust
and a constant inner turmoil that punctuates his
self-dislocation and lack of self-discovery. The
'son' of a prostitute and drug fiend, Gideon finds
that being nurtured from the breast of ruthlessness
has not adequately prepared him for the storm
that threatens to engulf him..

Book:
Reaper of Souls
A novel of the 1957 Kendal
Crash
Author:
Beverly East
As a child, I had a subconscious
fear of trains. My sweaty palms were always a
dead giveaway. The night before a trip, I couldn't
swallow any food; I couldn't sleep. Whenever it
was time to leave the house, my skinny legs would
tremble and make little uncertain steps as my
family headed towards the train station, and I
would squeeze my father's hand, not realizing
he was squeezing mine.
The personal opening of the book
sets the tone for the rest of the story, which
is about a girl who loses her parents, siblings,
cousins and friends in a terrible disaster. "Reaper
of Souls" is a journey into the life of the
author's past and the lives of her relatives who
died in that September 1, 1957 tragedy.
The Kendal Train Crash has
gone down in history as the Jamaica's worst railway
disaster and the second worst railway disaster
in the world. It is recorded that over 700 persons
were injured and 250 persons lost their lives.
