Entertainment returns to Cross Roads
Cross
Roads, once the entertainment centre of Kingston,
was all but abandoned as such until recently when
a brave entrepreneur, Mr. S. Campbell, made a
conscious and deliberate effort to revive entertainment
in this important business district.
Just 500 yards from the heart of Cross Roads,
the doors of the Fahrenheit Entertainment Centre
were recently opened on Old Hope Road. It consists
of a bakery and restaurant on the first floor,
sports bar & nightclub on the second and an
adult entertainment club on the third.
For those who work and pass through the area,
the restaurant is opened from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
at night, but opens beyond 10 when there is a
high demand. It serves authentic Jamaican and
Chinese cuisine.
One of the impressive features of the centre is
the absolute spaciousness of the sports bar. It
is equipped with several pool tables and the kind
of slot machines that are popular at hotel gaming
rooms and neighbouring bars around the islands.
Fahrenheit's concept of the sports bar incorporates
what was once very popular at most lounges - tables
and chairs for indoor games such as dominoes and
ludo, which are still very popular in Jamaica.
Of course, it also boasts a fully stocked bar
of local and international libations.

FAME
Anniversary Party - Absolutely Blazin'!!!
The
four elements were in full alignment on April
1, when the FAME FM family rang in its 23rd Anniversary
at Sugar Man's Beach, St. Catherine.
The first element - earth - was
represented by the sand. The second, which was
certainly in abundance, was wind. The third was
fire and it was adequately supported by the blazin'
FAME FM Team. The beautiful Caribbean Sea was
the source of the final element - water. To cut
a long story short, for the FAME Anniversary party,
'everything (did) plug in, nothing nuh plug out'!
Sugar Man's Beach Club became
95 FM's temporary home, as fans from both near
& far joined in on the twilight celebration.
The Beach Club, with its two-storey wooden structure,
reclining chairs and the like, was exhausted as
members of the FAME team capitalised on every
imaginable corner, leaving behind a trail of heat
in their wake. The FAME FM logo and other paraphernalia
were strategically placed around the perimeters,
with a heavy-duty stage placed right by the seaside.
This only helped to cement the almost totally
care-free setting and ambience.

Lanny Davidson
- Fighting for Fatherhood
We
kiss their bruises, calm their fears and often
times we watch them while they peacefully sleep.
They are oblivious to the many evils and hardships
of the world around them and we do the best we
can to create a safe and nurturing environment
in which they can thrive and have the best childhood
ever.
This is what parenting is about.
It is about the ability to give and give selflessly
in all that we have and to sacrifice in order
that their lives are enriched every single day.
But just how far are we really
willing to go for our offspring? How far does
our love extend and how passionate can a parent
be about seeing his or her children grow up in
a warm and stable home? Buzzz spent an afternoon
with one father who is single-handedly raising
two teenagers in a society that is matrifocal
in its outlook and sometimes unkind to males who
wish to shoulder the everyday responsibilities
usually seen as 'women's work'.
Meet Lanny Davidson, a self-employed
copier engineer by profession and a man who has
dedicated himself to being the best father possible
to his 18 year-old son Randy and 14 year-old daughter
Wendy, both of whom live with him.

Maia Chung - charting
her own path
Her
father may have wanted an accountant in the family,
but for her, spending hours pouring over figures
could never have translated into fun. Never one
to take that well-trodden path, she learnt from
early that you get out of life what you etch out
for yourself.
In designing her own path, this
quiet yet brilliant rebel with a cause threw herself
into her passion for writing, which she has cultivated
from childhood. This evolved from simply penning
stories to full-scale production. Today, Maia
Chung is CVM Television's 'it' girl, a position
that she has earned with commitment to her craft
and some incredibly long hours that most of us
would shirk from doing.
Yet this familiar face is
also a dedicated mother and wife who has worked
assiduously to create a working balance that allows
her to achieve her goals while holding down the
fort at home with her sons. Her ability to find
the positives in every turn and the good in every
situation has served her well in both her career
and her personal life.
