Carnival
in Jamaica
Its been more than a decade since Jamaicans
got their first taste of Carnival back in the
1980s. Then, a seasonal past-time of those
familiar with things Trinidadian, Carnival is
today an almost year-long passion for thousands
of Jamaicans, here and abroad, who now plan their
social agendas and budgets around what is perhaps
the islands largest and most highly organized
national event.
Evolution
of Bacchanal Jamaica
Bacchanal Jamaica was formed 7 years ago and the
main strength is in its blend of energy, experience
and diverse events developed over the years by
the individual Mas Bands making up this group.
In all, there are some thirty such events spread
over 12 weeks from January to April with every
week covered by at least two events per week.
One of the characteristics of
island life is the tendency for its people to
lose interest in an event or activity that remains
unchanged over time. In anticipation of this,
the group introduced several modifications to
its long events calendar over the last few years.
These include a series of Friday evening fêtes.
Socacise (free supervised exercise) sessions
on Mondays and Wednesdays where revelers come
to get fit for the season ahead and most importantly
become familiar with the music of the season.
The establishment of Beach Jouvert
a party at the exotic James Bond Beach in Oracabessa,
St. Mary which combines great entertainment and
a splash of paint as dusk descends.

Now,
in its 17th year, Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival

season was officially launched at the Jamaica

Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival in association
with its new sponsor Digicel promises a season

to Morant Point and back to Party Central, Kingston,
and this seasons theme, Oceans Fix
2006, will bring the Sea, Sand and Soca to all
its stops islandwide.
With its unique way
of incorporating the entire community into its
activities, Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival
in association with Digicel, works with local
promoters on each leg of the carnival journey,
to ensure that each event has some local flavour
and that the local vendors and concessionaires
all enjoy the benefits of carnival coming
to town. All through the season, you can
look out for new faces and flavour, and you will
be sure to see the Digicel Rising Stars
winner, Christopher Martin, and finalists like
