One
maybe asking for too much, but what unfolded on
the big screen at the premiere of the highly anticipated
Glory to Glorianna was a gigantic disappointment
to say the least. The memoirs of Gloria Minto which
has been immortalized on paperback, was to be the
story that emerged for one and all to see and feel
inspired by this self made businesswomans
sheer tenacity, determination and Jamaican ingenuity.
However what was presented was
little more than a bad comedy which seems rather
insulting to Mrs. Minto as while many aspects
of her story was indeed humorous it was in no
way just fun and carefree frolicking as she had
encounters some harsh life lessons along
the way. The end product trivialized Mintos
struggles with betrayal, teenage pregnancy, poverty
and domestic violence and was sadly devoid of
exactly how shrewd a businesswoman and respected
hotelier she would become. While no one is asking
for academy winning drama and suspense, these
issues deserved more than a mere gloss over.
