LAUGHTER
IS A
HEALER
Comedy is universal. It not only has the ability to inspire, provoke and entertain, but it can also pull us from the most depressing depths of misery and elevate us to euphoric heights. Laughter can heal us in deeply troubling times. This group of talented Jamaican comedians knows all that and more, and we love and celebrate them all the more for it.
Their faces are well known to young and old as they invade our living rooms or dominate the stage in the execution of their number one goal: making people laugh. Let’s face it: comedy is as natural to West Indians as the air we breathe so it is little wonder that we have so many talented actors and stand-up comics on our islands, where public offi cials are fair game, people’s business end up on radio talk shows and even crime can be converted into raw material for jokes.
From the comedic creativity of the Jamaican duo Ity & Fancy Cat to the sheer wit of Trinidadians Paul Keens Douglas, Donna Haddad, Dennis ‘Sprangalang’ Hall and Tommy Joseph to the electrifying performance of Trevor Eastman of Barbados and Guyanese Habeeb Khan, the punchlines are delivered with expert timing each and every time.
