He was depicted as ‘the problem child’, a nonchalant idler, a proverbial thorn in P. Diddy’s rear in MTV’s ‘Making the Band 2: Da Band’. Have you guessed who he is? Yes, it’s the one and only, Dylan Dilinjah. Dylan, however says what was presented to the public, couldn’t be further from the truth.
“What you saw was fifty percent of the real deal. For example, can you really believe that a Caribbean man like myself would not want to go to the shows and make some money? It was edited just for hype – that was not Dylan. I had to deal with probation, court and all these legal things, so it’s not as though I didn’t want to be there. It was all hype. Everyone was given their own character, so to speak, and that was mine,” he said.
In reference to the court case, Dylan says: “It was just some assaults on people who were supposed to be badman – turned out to be informers. I’m free now and finished up to ten years of probation. It’s all behind me.”
As for whether or not the court case and being portrayed as the unreliable, rebellious deejay hurt his image, Dylan says: “I think they tried but it helped me more than anything. I am the most recognized one out of that season whether they liked it or not.”
Born in Brooklyn, but of Grenadian decent, Dylan sports a patois of sorts, which becomes even clearer in his songs; he says this Caribbean background has always played an integral role in his music.
