Rolling with the Queen
Are you ready for the Queen? No, really ready? Well, ready or not here she comes! Alison Hinds is rolling out with the recent release of her debut album Soca Queen and nothing can stop her.
After the disbanding of her long time soca band Square One, some must have doubted her decision to continue as a solo act: could she pull her own? Would fans be eager to see her ro-ro-rolling (in a way many females envy and men salivate)? And the resounding answer is ‘of course!’
There’s more to Alison than what’s behind her – Square One, naturally – and Buzzz got the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of the soca queen.
“When people look at me I want them to see a woman who has come a long way career-wise in entertainment and soca. ‘Talkin’ up di tings dem!’
The local media landscape is fraught with its fair share of posers, conformists and plastic personalities; but occasionally, someone comes along to break the mould. Twenty-five year old Khadine Hylton, more popularly known as ‘Miss Kitty’, is one such individual making her mark in the industry.
At the vanguard of ‘keeping it real’ and testing the limits, Miss Kitty has arrived on the scene to “talk up di tings dem”. Her bold exploration of controversial and taboo issues disconcerts the prim and proper and delights her legion of fans, which can’t seem to get enough of her unflinching honesty and high-energy on the airwaves.
“I think I’m different and unique because I keep it real, and I think people have gravitated towards me because they sense my sincerity. I don’t come off as being pretentious or whatever, I’m just myself. If you love me, I love you too, and if you don’t…you can kiss my acrylic!” the ‘fluffy diva’ stated with a casual wave of the hand.
