Andru Donalds –
Living His Dream
He’s come a far way from his childhood days in Mona Heights, St. Andrew, where his nights were filled with dreams of one day attaining rock and roll/pop stardom. Jamaican singer Andru Donalds still remembers the long treks from Papine to the top of Jacks Hill in the early days just to get a glimpse of MTV. Such was his passion for the music back then, something that still surges within him.
If his name doesn’t ring a bell, it’s important to firmly establish his credentials right here and now. Andru Donalds is one of the best vocal talents out of Jamaica. At the zenith of his popularity in the Americas in the mid 1990s, he was responsible for the top forty Billboard hit “Mishale” (an infectious song about a girl with a unique spelling of the popular name “Michelle”).
Since then, he’s continued to sell millions of albums and ride high on the charts in Europe and South America, which only partially explains his absence on the local scene. As a solo act, he’s made five albums and has scored big with the emotionally stirring cover of Air Supply’s “All Out Of Love”. His cover of Jackson Brown’s “Somebody’s Baby” was included on the critically acclaimed soundtrack of the Oscar-winning movie “Good Will Hunting”. His songs have also been featured in Latin American soap operas.
