Ainsley Burrows –
On A Journey To Greatness
You may recognise his face from the Guinness television commercial, where he speaks with personal and poetic conviction about being on a journey. New York-based Jamaican poet, writer and performing artist Ainsley Burrows is, indeed, on a journey - one that will see him maximising his artistic potential and taking his talent to the world in a big way.
A product of Kingston College, where the students are taught never to yield in the face of adversity, Burrows has managed to carve out a solid name for himself, off his own steam, in the world of publishing, writing and performance poetry.
“If you’re not an established writer, it’s hard to get published in the US. After countless publishers refused to give me a break, I broke into the industry by starting my own company, Burrows Ink, in 1999,” stated Ainsley.
He has since written three collections of poetry – “Black Angels with Sky Blue Feathers”, “The Woman Who Isn't Was” and “The Wolf Who Cried Boy”, with the latter being published by Flipped Eye in London. His work has also been anthologised in several volumes. Ainsley has stirred many souls and opened many minds at festivals, cafes and institutions across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe. He has come a far way from the ardent, relatively unknown artist who embarked on a guerilla tour called “Babylon by Foot” across the US and evolved into a “lean, mean, poetry machine”.
