Delcita Coldwater
–
Witty, Smart and Brutally Frank!

With a name like ‘Delcita Coldwater’, enough war paint make-up to successfully hide Bin Laden and a knack for making even the toughest cynic burst out laughing, it’s no wonder why these days Andrea Wright is the funny woman of comedy.

The undisputed queen of roots play, Wright portrays the loveable but ugly simpleton who upon closer investigation is not as simple-minded as people tend to believe. This larger than large character known to adoring fans simply as ‘Delcita’ is famous for rendering lawyers dumbstruck and turns any courtroom into her personal playground.

Buzzz Magazine sat down with Wright who currently stars in the Stage’s Production ‘Money Worries’, to explore a little of her theatrical history, her love affair with her alter ego ‘Delcita’ as well as how she spends her time away from the bright lights of the stage.

In the real world Andrea Rosemarie Wright is a strikingly beautiful woman of colour who every night gets transformed into a face only a mother could possibly love. “That’s my own creation. I do my own make-up, black face, rotten teeth and all.”

Wright has always been a natural born comedian with an incredible sense of humour. “I guess I took it from my father who used to leave people in stitches. I later discovered that I have the same knack. I can say something that cracks people up and I stand straight face and just keep moving.”

Wright boasts some twenty years in theatre, dating back to the late 1980s when playwright and producer Paul Beale gave her her first dramatic break. “It was sometime back in 1989, with Paul Beale’s ‘Muss Muss Tail’ and I played an old woman.”
