David Anderson – In Pursuit Of A Championship
Jamaica is blessed with an abundance of talented individuals who ever so often, whenever the stage presents itself, cause others to look up and take notice. Ability knows no limitations and it is therefore not restricted to one group or class of persons. This in mind, it came as no surprise, that nestled within the confines of Kingston’s bustling commercial business district, the think tank where finance is concerned, the Hip Strip for nocturnal elements, our version of Wall Street – New Kingston – a race car driver lurks. When he is not busy determining how, where, when and why his organization should earn or spend its next dollar, David Anderson spends a considerable amount of time shifting at redline and coordinating his late braking strategy, with one goal in mind – Improved Production 27, Class Champion – at Dover Raceway.
David Anderson is no rookie. There is no need to place the huge triangle on his car to indicate to others that he is entirely new to the rough and tumble world of motor sports. In fact, David will tell you that he has always been a fan, but actually got his knuckles in the grease (started competing) in Rallying, as Raj Jadusingh’s co-driver in 2004. At that time, he was an active member of Team Xpress Racing. Grateful for the opportunity, David dived in and took on driving responsibilities as well, at both Tarmac and Dirt Rally Sprint events.
A disappointing finish in Rally Jamaica 2007 encouraged David to take a break from active participation. But who wouldn’t be despondent, if after remaining competitive for most of the rally and looking forward to a podium finish in the class and a top five overall placing, it all came to naught when the car developed terminal problems on the final stage, a few metres from the finish line!
