What Happens in Negril... – Dream Vs. ATI

The battle for party supremacy this summer just got a lot more intense following the recent announcements of the Red Stripe and Appleton line-up of events, set to take Negril by storm this Independence Weekend.

Competing for patrons’ party dollar this season, will be the Red Stripe Dream Weekend – a new series of parties featuring a combination of premier events from the former Red Stripe Temptation Island and Appleton Treasure Isle series – and the return of the Original Appleton Temptation Isle (ATI), which sees the reunion of original ATI sponsors Appleton and the Absolute Team.

The first question party goers may ask is, what gave birth to the Red Stripe “Dream”? When asked about the beer company’s decision to part company with Absolute Entertainment and launch a new series, Red Stripe’s Brand Manager Safia Cooper spoke about the need for a more fresh, unique and exciting approach to the weekend.

Buzzz Remembers The King Of Pop

The New York Times penned him as one of the “six most famous people on the planet”. He was the One-Gloved Wonder, the King of Pop.

Michael Jackson transcended the boundaries of the music industry, challenging issues of race, sex, poverty. He was an ambassador of goodwill, and revolutionary when it came to the vision he had for his music.

In the latter part of his career, the media depicted him as trial-weary, and reclusive – but still, millions around the world aspired to emulate, the moon-walking, crotch-grabbing, silken-voiced musical wonder.

The unmistakable whisper when he spoke, his single gloved hand, white socks and glittery jackets – images all emblazoned in our memory for ever.

Jackson emerged on the scene in 1969, when his career saw him performing alongside his siblings in The Jackson 5. It was undeniable that this Black-American youth, channeled songs like "I Want You Back" and "I'll Be There", with passion and soul belying his years.

Are you Ready for the Hurricane Season?

The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 and will run through until November 30. Although trends have shown that most hurricanes occur during the fall months, one should still be on guard during hurricane season, and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, which is a generic term for a low pressure system that generally forms in the tropics. The cyclone is accompanied by thunderstorms and, in the Northern Hemisphere, a counterclockwise circulation of winds near the earth's surface.

Tropical cyclones begin as Tropical Depressions, with maximum sustained winds of 38 miles per hour. It becomes a Tropical Storm when there are strong thunderstorms and maximum sustained winds of 39-73 miles per hour.

Self Defense

Could you defend yourself if attacked? What’s the best thing to do? Should you run, scream, or bawl out for help, or stand firm and defend your person? People find creative ways and means of protecting themselves, and one such way is by being trained in martial arts.

“Self defense is primarily preventing oneself from getting hurt by whatever means necessary” says Bobby Smith, Director of Safety and Security, University of Technology (U-TECH). It is a means of providing sufficient force for stopping your attacker from striking. Based on how Jamaica is right now, it is exceedingly important for persons to be aware and to know what to do in the case of an attack.

“Most people think self defense is just about the physical, but it’s actually a mental thing” says Smith. He says that the first thing to do is to find out where the potential problems are and just be aware of the potential danger. “Some people put themselves in trouble and then try to get out of it, which is not as simple as it sounds.”
