The Sky Is Not The Limit For Bruck Up

George Adams had very humble beginnings in the Mountain View and Rockfort areas of Kingston Jamaica. At the age of two he was sent to Mandeville by his mother where he was to treat osteomyelitis in his legs which caused an inflammation of the bone. Throughout his childhood in into his adult life he had to walk around with his legs bent, and everyday people would know him as none other than Bruck Up.

During his high school years, Adams found himself among other young men in the Pearnel Charles Arcade in Downtown, Kingston. This was the after-school ‘flex’ every day where they would hang out and listen to music and dance. The likes of Squiddly Ranks and Snagga Puss used to frequent the arcade and this helped to spark young Adams’ interest in music. After everyone had left, Adams would wander off to the latest ‘dance’ happening in the area. With the sounds of Stone Love and Metro Media often blaring from the speaker boxes, Bruck Up became the “dancehall clown”. Unable to afford new clothes, the ambitious young man sought clothing form the Salvation Army and took on a new persona which he says “brought a breath of fresh air to the dancehall”.

Dancehall embraced him due to his personality and his difference in style when he went out and put on ‘his show’. “Dem couldn’t figure out how mi come wid this different 80s vibe”.
